A Stinkin' Cute Turkey...that is thankful for word wall words

2 more school days....AHHHHHHHHH! Will we make it??!!!!????!!! I LOVE my kiddos but I am ready for a break (and shhhhh, yes, there are a few I am REALLY ready for a break from....bless their sweet little hearts!) These turkeys are sooooo, soooooo adorable and they are great for getting to kiddos to hush work quietly. I have no template for them to trace or any paper sizes you need to pre-cut exactly. The kiddos just watch me make it and then go and do their own thing. I LOVE how each turkey is different just like each of them. Take a look at some of these adorable birds!

and turkeys DO come in all shapes and sizes!

After making the turkey, they write Word Wall words on the feathers and then go and read the words to 2 people. Easy and cute...and that is a craft I am thankful for. :)

I am going to do this with my kiddos this next short week (we are spending time reviewing word wall words instead of adding new ones...perfect!)

Heather,
I have been in education for over 20 years....can't believe it! Anyway, I have taught third grade, fourth grade, and first grade, most recently I worked as a Reading Specialist. The last time I taught first grade was 12 years ago. I opened a first grade classroom several weeks after school had started this year. I have been out of the "regular" classroom for 5 years and have been crazy busy trying to get it together again! Thank you for your excellent attitude about teaching!! I know I can go to your blog and find another first grade teacher who loves it! Please keep posting....I am so NOT creative and love your stuff and especially your similar philosophy!!
Thanks,
Val

Thank YOU Val! You just made my ENTIRE week! I am not very creative...especially compared to most bloggers out there but I love to make things for my kiddos! I am blessed to have an "expert" come by my blog and use my stuff! I have a positive attitude ONLY when I don't let ALL of the other obstacles get in the way of loving my kiddos and teaching them what they need to know. Please keep coming by and THANK YOU again for your sweet and encouraging heart note!

Heather--you are AMAZING! You are such an inspiration! I just started my own blog and your button was one of the first that I copied into my profile! I realized after I set mine up that we have the same template so I am sorry (I am looking to change mine but haven't found any yet) I wanted to tell you that I used your turkey idea today but had the kids right "I am thankful for..." around a white plate and then in the middle whatever they are thankful! One of my darlings said "I am thankful for...aliens! haha...he turned his Turkey into an Alien turkey, but like you said...all shapes, sizes and types...right? Thanks for being awesome...and I would LOVE for you to add my button! Thanks!

and obviously it was a long day...for me to write "right" instead of write...

I wanted to let you know that I did do this with my kiddos on our last day before break on Tuesday. They turned out SO cute and took my kids FOREVER to do (ahhhhh, lovely). I didn't have brown paper plates so I had them color the "rim" with brown markers or crayons. LOVE!

Thanks bunches!
