Gobble Up Some Freebies- Making 10 Fun

Hey friends! I am so excited that Thanksgiving Break is almost here! This will be the 1st time EVER to have the whole week off. Hello pajamas and NetFlix! :)

For those of you that have to go next week, I hope these *freebies* are something you can use.

We have been working on math facts and 10 makers. We have played games galore. A fun, quick game my kiddos love that can be modified by using ANY manipulative is What's Hiding? This is a great way to also work on Part Part Whole.

Using leftover Halloween candy corns turkey beaks, I hide some under the cup. The kiddos have to solve the missing part and tell me the addition and subtraction fact. For example, I tell the kiddos to close their eyes. I put 6 turkey beaks in the cup and flip the cup over. I put 4 next to the cup. The kiddos then open their eyes and I say my whole is 10. The kiddos will count on to 10 and tell me that missing part in the cup is 6. They will then tell me the missing part can also be solved by starting at 10 and taking away the part they know which is 4. So, the addition sentence would be 4+6=10 and the subtraction sentence would be 10-4=6. Finally, we flip the cup over, check our answer, and eat some turkey beaks. :)

Ready to turn your little turkeys into turkeys??? And all learning is better when you can make a hat, right?

Kiddos take turkey feathers and the 10 frame cards. They find the 10 makers and glue the pair on a feather. The students then write the 2 addition sentences for that problem. For example, 6 and 4 make 10 so my addition sentences are 6+4=10 and 4+6=10.

I WILL Survive....Turkey Style

I am jealous and unfollowing happy for all of you bloggy friends who are already enjoying their week long Thanksgiving Holiday. I have 2 days or 14 hours or 420 minutes or 50,400 seconds. In the words of my favorite Thanksgiving song, I WILL SURVIVE!

This month will have also been working to earn feathers for good behavior...and reviewing shapes. 

I am sorry for not blogging about this sooner but I've been running around like 

a chicken...or turkey with its head cut off! Lol!

This adventure started with a letter from Mr. Gobbles. 

He was on the run from the farmer. He wanted us to look for shapes that he had hidden around the school. As he was running around, his feathers were also falling out! Poor Mr. Gobbles.

After finding TONS of feathers and 6 different shapes, 

we headed back to our classroom.

When we returned there, we had a package waiting for us.

Inside the package were shape riddles.

After we solved the riddles, we read another letter from Mr. Gobbles. He told us that he had been by our room but the farmer was still after him. He was so scared that when he was trying to talk that not all of the sounds in the word were coming out. We needed to help him find those missing letters and sounds.

To complete our adventure, we made Indian headbands. On the headbands, we made patterns with the shapes we solved riddles about. The kiddos had been working to earn feathers from Mr. Gobbles for making helpful and kind choices.

Ready Confetti and Birthday Bubbles

Next Thursday I get to meet some of my kiddos at Meet the Teacher. Before they leave, each kiddo gets to take home a special card that says:

When they open the card, they see this. =)

In the little baggie is ready confetti mixed with jitter glitter.

There is an adorable poem about sprinkling the ready confetti and jitter glitter under your pillow on the night before the first day of school. This will help our little ones not be nervous before the BIG day. The poem also says that I will sprinkle it under my pillow too. On Monday morning, we will all have ready confetti and jitter glitter in our hair. =)

I used the tiny jewelry bags that I found at Hobby Lobby. I bought a couple of different kinds of confetti and put in a few spoonfuls of silver glitter. I mixed it all up and put a spoonful in each baggie. =)

For some reason, the second page is not folding in half evenly. Part of the rainbow frame gets folded. =( I tried fixing it but decided to not waste time. I printed the page and trimmed it. I'll glue it in the middle of the first page. There are different pages depending on what day you start back.

100 kinds of adorable right??!!?? =)

During one of my frequent visits to Target, I saw these adorable microphones that are also bubbles. HOLY CUTENESS! I had an instant brain pop and thought we can use them to sing Happy Birthday to my kiddos and then they have a fun birthday present to take home. I found a cute container and made these little tags to go with the bubbles.

I did not get the chance to finish tying the tags on the bubbles but I can do that in all of my free time. Teachers have TONS of free time right??!!?? We get the summers off and only work until 3:30! =)

I am at the hospital with my mom right now. =(

I might have to go buy some bubbles for next year! =)

We "officially" start back tomorrow. I think I develop ADD when I enter my classroom. I seem to hop all over the place and work on about 20 different things at once. Please let me know if you have any questions. My mind is thinking of so many things right now...I am afraid I did not explain things very well.

Laugh Therapy and In Your Hand and On Your Heart

Several years ago I heard the song "Cletus Take the Reel" and about hurt myself from laughing so hard.

Since then, I have become a HUGE fan of Tim Hawkins....He is a hilarious Christian comedian. He even came to my little ol' town of Nacogdoches and my whole family went to see to see him. My nieces watch his dvd's ALL of the time. He has become my LAUGH THERAPY!!!!!!

Here are some of my favorites! Take a break and have a dose of laughter! =)

To end this post, I want to share again something I did that makes a huge impact with helping me remember to have a Heart of Patience. Tonight before I go to sleep I am going to write the initials of one of my toughies on the palm of my hand. In the morning and throughout the day tomorrow, I am going to stop and say a prayer for that kiddo every time I see his initials. If he is near me, I am going to hug him or rub his back or make some positive connection. I might glance at his initials and need to celebrate him at that moment. Since I will be constantly having a glimpse at those initials, I will be consciously making an effort to show him love and patience. I have done this throughout the year with different kiddos and even some grown-ups at school....it makes a huge impact on not only the kiddo but on me.

Hold them in your hand so they will always be on your heart. =)
